Choosing the right car for Oʻahu
Oʻahu driving is gentle. The H-1, H-2, and H-3 carry most of the distance, the coastal roads are paved and well kept, and nothing on the island calls for a specialist vehicle. What actually decides a good week is space, sun, and where the car sleeps at night.
- Count the bags before the seats. Four adults fit in most cars; four adults with four suitcases fit in far fewer.
- Open-air driving suits the leeward and North Shore coasts, where the wind is warm and the views run continuously.
- Parking in Waikīkī rewards a smaller footprint. A compact car takes the tighter garages that a full-size truck passes by.
- Beach gear travels better in a hatch or an SUV, where a sandy cooler rides behind the seats rather than beside them.
How luggage really fits
Every Island Luxe vehicle page states its luggage guidance in bags rather than in litres, because a bag is the unit a traveller packs in. Treat two bags as two full-size suitcases, three to four as a family week, and five or more as a group trip with beach chairs and a cooler riding along.

Picking the car up
