Charging basics on Oʻahu
Charging falls into three kinds, and knowing which is which makes the week simple. The difference between them is speed, and the right one depends on how long the car sits still rather than on how far you drove.
Public chargers cluster around shopping centres, hotels, and municipal car parks in Honolulu, with thinner coverage on the North Shore and the windward side. Plan a top-up around lunch or a beach afternoon and the network never becomes the story of the day.
- Level 1, a household outlet: roughly 3 to 5 miles of range per hour. Fine overnight for a light day.
- Level 2, the common public and hotel charger: roughly 20 to 30 miles per hour. An evening covers most trips.
- DC fast charging: a substantial charge in 20 to 45 minutes, and the option for a same-day top-up.
- Many Waikīkī and Ko Olina hotels carry Level 2 chargers in their garages. Confirm availability with the hotel when you book the room.
Arriving with charge and returning with it
